What to Look for in a Used IB Textbook

Edition: Make sure the edition matches the current IB curriculum. The Haese Mathematics series was updated for the 2019 curriculum. Always confirm the publication year before buying. Books from before 2019 cover the old syllabus and will not be useful for current students.

Condition: Look for books with clean pages and no missing sections. Light highlighting or pencil marks are usually fine. Torn or missing pages create real problems during revision and exams.

Access codes: Some textbooks include online access codes that expire after first use. A used copy will not have a working code, but the printed content is fully usable and that is what matters for studying.

A Few Tips Before You Buy

Buy used for stable subjects. TOK, English, Biology, History, Economics. These subjects do not change their core textbooks very often and buying used is almost always safe.

Double check the edition for Maths. The IB updated the Mathematics curriculum in 2019. Older Haese books with pre-2019 covers follow the old syllabus. Look for the teal and purple cover designs from the current series.

Sell your books when you are done. Used IB textbooks hold their value well. When you finish, list them with us or sell through IB parent Facebook groups. You will recover a good chunk of what you spent.
